I used a beautiful yarn in hopes of knitting my daughter a new hat for those cold days in Minneapolis. This is my granddaughter so there's no way this hat is going to make it on someone who is in their mid 20s.
The yarn is Qina by Miraol. 80% Baby Alpacca and 20% Bamboo. So soft.
The model was being a bit fussy and pulled it down too far so you don't see much slouch.
Love this scarf. So soft and plush. Debbie Bliss alpaca silk. What daughter can't use a new black scarf? Especially a daughter living in Minneapolis.
I had 4 skeins in my stash and used it all. I cast on 27 stitches, on a US #9 and got a scarf that is 5 1/2 inches wide by 6 feet long.
I knit this hat for my two year old grandson who is not a "hat" type of guy. Couldn't even get him to put it on for a model shot.
The hat knit up quickly and is great pattern. Lots of coverage for little ears.
The pattern is from Book 2: The Purl Stitch by Sally Melville. Size small using a worsted weight yarn fits a toddler. I used Rustic Wool by Queensland Collection. It's 100% super wash wool. A great little hat. Now I just have to find someone who will wear it.
I found this pattern for the "Sideways Short-Row Seaman's Scarf" on a knitting blog a year or so ago. I printed the pattern and filed it with other scarf patterns so when I was looking for something to do with 1 skein of silk garden, this seemed to fit. The scarf itself took the full skein and then I used some leftovers for the ruffle.
It's a simple pattern. All garter stitch. Cast on 130 stitches. Row one would be a short row on one end of the scarf. Row two would be a knit all the way across and then repeat those two rows....always knitting the short row at the opposite end. I see that the pattern is in the Ravelry data base but the link to the pattern is no longer on the blog.
I had originally planned to knit this little pink hat for someone who is having a little girl soon. But, my granddaughter needed a hat for her baby. The hat is not for this baby. It's for a baby who is a little bigger, but that baby wasn't available for the photo shoot.
The hat is just a basic rolled brim hat with a 6 inch icord. The yarn is Debbie Bliss baby cashmerino. I used US #3 and cast on 96 stitches and knit in the round for 5 inches before starting the decreases. It's a perfect baby hat!
You can't knit a scarf for a granddaughter without knitting one up for her brother. Not sure how much this scarf will get worn. My goal was to knit something that would be soft on his neck and face. I think my yarn selection was good. However, the scarf is a little bulkier than what I would prefer for the little guy.
This concludes my projects for 2008. Many bloggers have posted their 2009 knitting goals.
I will list a few......
1. Knit from stash.
2. Don't purchase yarn without a definite pattern/project in mind.
3. Knit fewer items, but bring in more design and pattern work in the projects I do knit.
I think I can do the first two. The third, I'm not sure about. All my knitting is done in front of the TV so I really do go for the "mindless" projects.
My granddaughter needed a "child friendly" scarf.....one that was not so bulky and long. I decided since I had enough yarn to also make her a hat. The yarn is Noro Silk Garden in color 2039. I used just over 2 skeins for both.

My son and daughter in law were hosting a New Year's Eve party and it was themed "an ugly sweater" party. Here's a picture of my youngest daughter and her sweater pick.
I knit this sweater out of scraps about 40 years ago and have never been able to part with it. Aside from a couple of small holes, I think it's survived pretty well. I was in my teens when I knit it. I only knew one place to buy yarn and that was our local dime store. All I recall is Coats and Clark Red Heart yarn.
