Long-Thumbed Mitten

It's been years since I knit mittens.  I remember knitting some for myself when I was in high school.  I never knit them for my children because my MIL knit them many, many pairs.  At the cabin we alway had a box of mittens for the kids.  Not just mitten, but gloves, hats, scarfs, wool socks.  My MIL kept that box full.  That was years ago.  My kids are now grown and I have two grandchildren.  It's time to refill that box.

My MIL used this pattern book..

Nomis

It's Gloves and Mittens, by Nomis, Vol. 29.

A few years ago, I found this book and purchased it for it's good classic designs.

I used a yarn from my stash that I purchased at Mt. Bruce Station.  It was difficult knitting.  It's the corridale yarn and it's heavy and very stiff.  I could only knit on these mitts for a short time before my hands would start to ache.

Here's the finished product....

How do you like the length of those thumbs--especially the one on the left.  I guess I was too interested in TV and just kept knitting.  I didn't realize how funny they looked until I gave them a good soak.  Children's Size 2-4 XL Thumb.

Trekking Socks

Had a hard time naming this project since I don't have a recipient in mind.  Guess they will just go to the gift stash.

I knit these on two circs.  The basic simple sock by Cat Bordi, except I didn't rib the leg.

This pattern is usually my airport/flight knitting.  Much easier to knit socks on circs when you're flying.  At least if the needle slips out of your fingers, it stays attached to what is on your lap.  Have you ever tried to find a US#1 dpn on an airplane when the "fastened seat belt" light is on???

Not much to say about Arizona....my trip was cut short because of a family emergency.

Need to decide on my next airport/flying yarn.  Heading to San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico in about 10 days.

Jerome, AZ

Spent the day in Jerome.  On a clear day you can see the San Francisco Peaks in Flagstaff which is about 60 miles from Jerome.

Cap for the Hat/Mitten Box

The is the end of the Robin Egg Angora by elsebeth lavold.  A cap for the hat and mitten box is always needed.  With another generation of little ones around it is time for freshen up the items in the box.  The pattern is by Handknitter.  I used about 1 1/2 skeins for this toddler sized cap.

I'm flying to Phoenix tomorrow.  At the time I purchased my ticket, had no idea that I would be flying to Super Bowl City on Super Bowl Day.  I won't be in Phoenix long.  Just long enough to claim my luggage.  Heading to Sedona for two weeks.
